Good To Know...

  • The currency in Israel is called Shekel (or INS = Israeli New Shekel). Go to www.xe.com to find the current exchange rate. Local currency can be purchased at most hotels or at designated money exchange locations. Many ATMs will accept most of the United States debit and credit cards (Mastercard, visa, etc) in order to withdraw cash.  


  • Most common language spoken is Hebrew, but other languages that you will hear are Arabic, English, Russian, Ukraine and Romanian. Street signs are in English and Arabic so it’s easy to get around. Also, food menus at most restaurants also offer English menus. 


  • Downtown Tel Aviv is about 20 minutes drive Northwest from the airport.  


  • The most common method to communicate with the locals is via WhatsApp (requires Wi Fi). 


  • Uber or Turo types of transportation are NOT available in Israel. Taxis, buses and trains are available. To view some of the public transportation available with routes and schedules can be found at Moovit app (https://moovit.com/) and Rav-Pass app (https://ravpass.co.il/en/) . 


  • Electrical scooters are also available to tour around the city. More info is available at https://yango.com/en_il/ as well as  www.li.me 


  • Some public transportation and attractions, as well as some restaurants are closed from Friday afternoon until Saturday sundown in observance of the Sabbath (Saturday is a holy day in Israel).  Check out the FREE TRANSPORTATION in Tel Aviv during Shabbat (Saturday) by clicking HERE.
